Browns release Anderson

Well, the inevitable has finally happened. The Browns have officially released Derek Anderson just a day after they traded for Seneca Wallace of the Seahawks. It was highly unlikely that the Browns were going to keep both Anderson and Quinn even before the trade for Wallace.

By releasing Anderson the Browns were able to avoid paying him $10million this year. Aside from the money, and the trade for Wallace, this really shouldn't come as a surprise given his performance last year. After coming off a career year in 2007, he gradually got worse and worse each year to the point where he had a few games last year with under 50 yards.

Expect Quinn and Wallace to battle for the QB spot this year. Holmgren worked with Wallace when he was in Seattle which might explain why the Browns traded for him.

Carl Edwards only gets probation

So you have a driver, who actually admits yes I wrecked a driver on purpose even though your over 100 laps down, and all you get is a suspension. Oh and the person he wrecked on purpose was about to get a top 5 finish, and instead was spun out and his car flipped.

The fact that Edwards was only put on probation for 3 weeks is pathetic. I have seen drivers get fined huge money for bump drafting wrong, or cursing on air. But now you have a driver, who is over 100 laps down, intentionally wrecks a top 5 finisher and Nascar just gives him a slap on the wrist. What message is this sending?

As many have noted, in the off season Nascar actually said "have it at boys", and that they want the drivers to police themselves. Then they said well if a driver steps over the line, we will step in, OK so what in the hell is over the line? Spinning a car intentionally and causing it to flip isn't over the line? Nascar was pathetic in this, and you can without a doubt know that if Keslowski spun out Edwards, he would most likely have been suspended and fined. Its a double standard and its pathetic!

Twins Nathan might be done for season

Turns out the "precautionary MRI" was for much more then just that. After being examined and having his MRI, it turns out Nathan has a torn elbow ligament. Nathan has not opted for surgery just yet, he plans to rest, and rehab in the next 1-2 weeks in hopes that will show signs of recovery. However given the tear, and the strain on a pitchers elbow, Nathan will most likely need the surgery and in the case would most likely be out the entire year.

For the Twins, if Nathan is out for the year, that will prove to be a huge blow. Nathan last year had a career high 47 saves with a 2.10 ERA, along with six consecutive seasons of 36 saves or more. Given that the free agent market is very light on closers, the Twins would most likely have to look in their farm system, or pitchers already in the majors.

Without Nathan, the Twins chances of making the playoffs are much less then with him. Last year they only made the playoffs by 1 game, and that was with Nathan having 47 saves. Take him out of the equation and put in a younger pitcher who isn't used to closing games, and you end up with maybe 20 saves, and many many more blown saves. Twins can say goodbye to all playoff hopes.

Girl of the Week, Daniela Hantuchova

Daniela here is a beautiful Slovakian Tennis player who is only 26, and has a beautiful body. She is currently ranked 22nd in the country and her highest ranking was 5th all the way back in 2003. Is it just me, or are most female tennis players beautiful?

Rest assured, the club controversy is over!

OK people, we can all finally rest knowing that they have finally solved this problem regarding the clubs. I for one have been so worried I have been unable to sleep at times, just thinking about the controversy over wedges with square grooves. Many have called it cheating to use the square grooves, since they say you can get better spin on the ball to stop it and cause it to roll with more back spin on it.

Well people, the PGA has made a decision, and that decision is to no longer allow the Ping Eye 2 wedges, which were actually grandfathered in since they were made before the rule years ago. As of the end of March, no one will be allowed to use these clubs anymore, and thank god, because clearly it gave them a competitive advantage, so no worries everyone the issue has been solved.

Roethlisberger hires prominant Ga attorney

The case is getting a little trickier at this point. Ben Roethlisberger has gone out and hired the same attorney Ray Lewis used when he was being accused of Murder. From what has been said, he has been hired only to convince the police to not file charges in this case.

Of course the majority of the population will look at this as a sure sign of some truth in this matter. Again as I myself said earlier, in fact many other people have said the same thing, the first time you could believe he was wrongly accused, the second time you have to believe there is something to it. Unless he has the worst luck of all athletes with women trying to frame him, there has to be some truth to this, especially now hiring such a high profile lawyer.

Tebow to work out for Bills and Seahawks

Tebow, who did not throw at the Combine has recently announced that he will have individual works outs for both the Bills and Seahawks. These workouts will occur after pro day which is March 17th, where Tebow will unveil is new throwing mechanics to the nation.

With Buffalo Tebow has an ally there in Jim Kelly as he has mentioned that Tebow would be a great fit for the team that has not had a consistent QB since he retired. They have a need for a QB right away, the problem however is there is no one to mentor Tebow at Buffalo.

In the Seahawks they are looking for their future heir to Hasselbeck who is near the end of his career. Hasselbeck would be a great mentor for Tebow and could help ready him for the NFL. Either way this is good for Tebow as both teams are in rebuilding modes and would be willing to grow with him.

MLB finally smartens up.

After last years horrible umpire showing in the playoffs, 3 of the 7 umpire supervisors have been fired. They have made it known that the firings were a direct result of the post season showing last year. But the weird part is those exact umpires were retained.

OK I'm glad they took an initiative and released some as a result of what happened last year, however, how can you keep the umps that make the actual calls. The supervisors make recommendations to the umpiring crew, while working to maintain their integrity, so that being the case, why aren't the umps that made the calls being disciplined?

This is basically the MLB trying to save face, but more needs to be done. Replay needs to be expanded to cover controversial calls, and umpires need to be held accountable. Far to often mistakes umpires make actually lead to games being won or lost, when those teams shouldn't have won or lost. Its horrible that every year games are decided by umpires instead of the players themselves!

Iverson enjoys alcohol and gambling

Turns out Iverson's life is worse then we all thought. Not only is his daughter sick enough to force him to stop playing this year, his wife filed for divorce a few days ago, but now it turns out his life is in turmoil off the court.

Turns out he has a huge drinking problem, and gambles his money away in large chunks. His gambling problem is actually so large that he has been banned from casinos in Detroit and Atlantic City. There are no reports out just yet if he is facing money issues due to his gambling, but one can only assume he needs the money since he retired, then quickly un-retired to sign a new contract.

As for his drinking, there are many NBA sources who say that there is a widespread concern for Iverson. They fear that he "will either drink himself into oblivion or gamble his life away." The fact that his wife just recently filed for divorce will most likely cause him to drink more, and the irony is she is probably leaving him due to his personal issues.

He did a very good job hiding these problems, not many people if any, knew of his off the court issues. At the rate hes going, if he doesn't change quickly his wife leaving him will be the least of his worries.

Twins might be in trouble..

Joe Nathan, the Twins closer left the game Saturday due to stiffness in his pitching elbow. He had surgery in the off season to remove bone spurs and bone chips from his elbow. According to Nathan it was for "precautionary reasons" though now there is even more news out about this.

Nathan has actually gone back to Minnesota for an MRI on his elbow. I know that pitchers get MRIs as precaution, but having been removed from his first game, and getting an MRI right away, there needs to be concern regarding Nathan. If this is more serious then they are leading on, then expect the Twins to struggle early on until his return.
